The 12th and 4th Hants Volunteer Rifle Corps. — On Wednesday evening the Liphook, Horndean, and Hambledon divisions of the 12th Hants, together with the Petersfield division, met at Horndean for the purpose of having company drill by moonlight. The men ‟fell in” in two companies, under the command of Captain Sir W. W. Knighton and Lieutenant Seward, and marched to a large meadow adjoining Horndean, where they were soon joined by the 4th Hants (Havant), under the command of Captain Longcroft, and headed by their splendid brass band. The whole force, numbering about 150, were then exercised to their heart's content in battalion drill by Captain Commandant Chawner, after which they they marched into the village of Horndean, where Sir W. W. Knighton had kindly provided bread and cheese and ale for the whole, after despatching which all separated for their homes, evidently highly pleased with their evening's drill. Colonel Luard is to inspect the 12th Hants on the 28th instant.
