PETERSFIELD.—12th HANTS RIFLES.—On Thursday the first drill for the season took place in the Square, at two o’clock, when 50 rank and file mustered under Captain Sir W. W. Knighton, Bart., Adjutant Cook, Lieut. G. Seward, and Ensigns S. Seward and Chalcraft. After going through some preliminary drill, the corps marched to the Heath, when a variety of evolutionary movements were gone through in a very creditable manner with volley, platoon, and file firing, each man being supplied with twenty rounds. At half past four o’clock, the march to the town commenced, headed by the fife and drum band. On reaching the High street the halt and fall out was given, when the volunteers, from the invite of the gallant captain, entered the Red Lion and partook of bread and cheese and beer.
