TWELFTH HANTS RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.—It is highly gratifying to witness the growing disposition on the part of the young men of this town to make themselves, not only useful, but respectable members in the national cause, by becoming recruits in the 12th Hants rifle corps. This is the more creditable to a well-membered corps of volunteers, gathered as they are from a wide and not over-populated district, as evidencing the character, and standing among all its grades, as well as developing the feeling of the rising generation of men in their county's nationality. Within the last week four evenings’ drill has taken place (in the ample space afforded by the town) by a squad of 12 recruits, who, having mastered their facings in the Town Hall, emerged from the same in confidence, and went through their first public exhibition of evolutionary marchings, wheelings, &c., under Sergeant Caplin, in a manner creditable and commendable. This is as it should be to render themselves efficient and worthy members of the corps. We may also note an improved change and manners of the groups that now assemble at the street corners—to the low and vulgar gibes—which greeted the first novelties of public drill in the commencement of the movement.
