PETERSFIELD.
THE TWELFTH HANTS VOLUNTEER.— On Monday last, at half-past nine a.m., the 12th Hants Rifle Volunteers, Captain Seward commanding, mustered in the square, and proceeded to the railway station, which they left by the 10.12, for the purpose of joining in the review at Portsmouth. At Rolands Castle, the Horndean detachment joined the corps, then mustering 55, including Captain Seward and Lieutenant Minty, five sergeants, two buglers, and forty-six rank and file. Upon reaching Portsmouth, the corps proceeded to the 5th Hants head quarters at 11.20, and were supplied with twenty rounds each man with blank ammunition; they were then marched into a field opposite, where the 2nd administrative battalion was formed, comprising ten companies of 24 files each. At two o'clock they were marched into brigade, and in due course past in open column of companies. They then proceeded to the east end of the common by Southsea Castle, where, on receipt of orders, the left wing formed a portion of the skirmishers in the attack. Upon being recalled, they were deployed in line, and then formed quarter distance column in rear of right company, and were then dismissed about six o’clock—which they were nothing loath—having no opportunity during the day to replenish the inner man, being unproviden with haversacks, &c.
