PETERSFIELD.

RIFLE SHOOTING.—TWELFTH HANTS RIFLE VOLUNTEERS.—On Friday last the eighth annual rifle contest took place at the rifle range, Botley, of the Third Administrative Battalion in two matches of four prizes each, when the 12th Hants were again successful in bringing away three prizes out of the eight shot for, viz.:—

FIRST MATCH.—at 500 and 600 yards, 5 shots each. Wimbledon targets.

1st Prize, The Battalion Cup, won by Capt. Seward.

     SECOND MATCH.—at 300 and 400 yards. 5 shots each.

2nd prize, £3             Sergt. Caplin
3rd prize, £2           L.-Corp. Edney

The day was one of the most unpropitious yet met with for the annual firing, from wind and rain, which caused an allowance of nine yards necessary from left to right to be made. The present being the fourth time the cup has been brought away by the 12th Hants, viz., twice won by Sergt. Caplin, once by Sergt. Cole, and last by Capt. Seward.
