ROGATE.—FRIENDLY SOCIETY.—On Friday, the 29th of May, our friendly society commemorated their 26th anniversary. There were not so many present as usual, but the day was spent agreeably although it was a wet evening. The Compton band was in attendance, and the members (nearly 170) met at the inn at an early hour. A few minutes before 10 o’clock they formed a procession to meet the Rev. H. H. Green, the vicar. An appropriate sermon was preached by the rev. gentleman, in the parish church, from the 33rd verse of the 12th chap. of St. Like, ‟Provide yourself bags which wax not old; a treasure in the heavens that faileth not.” After Divine service had been performed they all sat down to an excellent dinner provided by Mrs. Lintot.
