HARTING.

PUBLIC TEA MEETING.—On Thursday, the 27th ult., a public tea meeting took place in our pretty little Chapel, which was very tastefully decorated for the occasion, to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the Rev. John McKean’s ministry in the parish of Harting, when about 110 sat down to partake of an excellent tea. After this followed a public meeting, when the audience had the pleasure of listening to some very excellent addresses. Mr. Forder, of Buriton, took the chair. Mr. Jackson, of Petersfield, first addressed the meeting, and spoke of the rapid flight of time. Then the Rev. S. Harding, in a very earnest manner, pointed out the necessity of individual effort in the cause of Christ to win souls to Him. The Rev. J. Gooby, of Petersfield, followed in a very able manner, speaking of the many errors that have crept into the several sections of the Christian Church, and the necessity of taking the Bible as the rule of our life. The Rev. John McKean thanked the several ministers and friends for their presence, after which the meeting closed by singing a very beautiful hymn, and prayer being offered by the Rev. —Gooby. We noticed a very great improvement in the appearance of the chapel, the seats and panelling being stained and varnished, and the galleries being very nicely grained, which looks very comfortable. We likewise observed a very great improvement in the singing, which was really excellent, and great praise is due to those that have the management of this part of the sanctuary. A very pleasant and profitable evening was spent, and all went to their homes delighted.
