ACCIDENT TO A GROOM. — An accident of a nature which at the time presented the most serious consequences happened upon the Recreation Ground, in the Heath, on Saturday afternoon, about three o'clock. It appears from the statement of an eye witness that the two eldest daughters of J. Bonham Carter, Esq., M.P., attended by the groom, had entered the grounds, and cantered away, the groom holding back at the entrance. The horse a fine animal, upon which he was riding, became ungovernably restive, and bolted for about 100 yards, when he ran with such force against a cow that was heedlessly grazing, as to knock her instantaneously upon her side to the ground; the horse at the same moment turned a complete somersault with the rider under—over whom the animal rolled, but quickly regaining his legs galloped away. Mr. H. White and Mr. F. Nichols, were fortunately near and hastened to the spot where they found the poor fellow lying apparently inanimate, having received a severe blow over the left temple; the pond being near, wet handkerchiefs were at once applied to his head, but it was full twenty minutes before consciousness was restored. The young ladies upon becoming aware of the accident, galloped into the town for medical aid, which was soon rendered from the establishment of Messrs. Whicher and Cross, when soon after the unfortunate groom being somewhat recovered proceeded to Adhurst St Mary's. It is hoped that although severely shaken and hurt, that no serious consequences may ensue. Fortunately the cow, which is in calf, at present appears to have escaped injury. The horse also escaped, with the exception of a good plaistering of dung in the yard of Mr. Henry Boys, into which he galloped, and fail up in a large quantity of ??ude.
