ACCIDENT.—We regret to state that a serious accident occurred on Saturday evening last to Mr Hardy, the well known and respected carrier. He was returning from his usual visit to Portsmouth, when on descending Butzer Hill, a short distance on this side of the cutting, he from some unexplained cause, fell from the van into the road, the wheel passed over one of his legs lacerating it severely, but fortunately not breaking the bone; one of his fingers was also nearly severed from the hand, and he was otherwise much bruised and shaken. It happened that he had some persons in the van with him who assisted him home, and we hear he is going on well.
