PETERSFIELD, Saturday, August 31,

ATTEMPTED SUICIDE — On Thursday morning the inhabitants of the rural parish of Privett, near this town, were thrown into a state of excitement upon hearing that an attempt to commit suicide had been made Mrs. Hasted, tho wife or Mr. John Hasted, master wheelwright. It appears that he was awoke by hearing his wife retching violently, when, upon questioning her as to the cause, she stated that she had taken two pills which she had made up from some rat poison she had in the house. Mr. Rogers, of Westmeon, was immediately sent for, and, upon reaching the house, applied the required remedy, and it is satisfactory that the would-be suicide is recovering.
