PETERSFIELD.—The worthy and zealous representative of this place, Mr. Hector, having signified that it is not his intention to offer himself again, in the event of a general election, Mr. John Carter, of Ditcham, has in a short, suitable address, offered himself to the electors on the Liberal principles which his lamented father maintained throughout a long parliamentary career, distinguished by the most important, and at the same time unobtrusive usefulness. Such a call admits but of one answer. The memory of the late Mr. Carter is a property cherished by the whole parliament of England, and by every friend of public right within the realm. Nor were the merits of the present candidate's grandfather on the maternal side less. Who that loves human liberty and feels the calls of humanity can forget Wm. Smith, the member for Norwich, the friend and coadjutor of Fox, Wilberforce, Whitbread, and Grey?—Hampshire Independent.
