AN ARBITRATION CASE was, on the 15th and 16th ult., held at the Dolphin Hotel, Petersfield, to assess the purchase and compensation money to be paid to Wm. Milton Bridger, Esq., recorder of Chichester, for land taken from him by the Petersfeld Railway Company. The line of railway goes through the middle of Dumford Park Farm, taking nearly four acres of land and causing considerable damage by severance and injury to the farm house. Mr. Bridger claimed 1494l. 11s. 10d. The arbitrators were Mr. L. A. Dean, for the company, and John Stapley for Mr. W. Bridger, and the umpire (appointed by the Board of Trade) was Mr. George Powell. M. I. I. Johnson, barrister, instructed by Messrs. Powell and Son, of Cbichester, appeared for Mr. Bridger and Mr. Thomas Hoskins, solicitor, of' London, (son of our late respected neighbour Mr. Thomas Hoskins, of Gosport), appeared for the company. Able speeches were made, and a number of witnesses examined on both sides. The umpire has just made his award, giving to Mr. Bridger 725l.
