CAUTION TO TRADESMEN.—A person who stated he resided at Queen's Beach, Sunning-hill, near Chertsey, has been at Portsmouth, and obtained watches, jewellery, &c. to a large amount, on pretence of coming into possession of a large fortune by the decease of an uncle, Admiral Holmes. He appears to be one of a gang who are in the habit of depositing as security bills for large sums drawn upon, and payable at, Brampton, Crawford, and Co.'s 70, Aldermanbury, London, signed with different names as the drawers. He left Portsmouth the early part of this week on a horse he hired of Mr. Loe, livery man. The horse was a dark brown gelding, fifteen hands two inches high, aged, with grey hairs behind the ears, a crib-biter. He was traced to Horndean, Alton, and Farnham, and there his track was lost, but two men have been apprehended at Petersfield, who appear to have something to do with the swindle. He is about 32 years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, light hair and complexion, has one tooth out of the front upper jaw, dressed very genteelly, of good address, and is most likely wearing a snake-pattern ring, with diamonds and turquoise, or a buckle ring.
