Through the hospitality of the Guardians, the inmates of the Petersfield Union were regaled on Christmas Day with roast beef, plum pudding, and strong beer; with currant cakes and tea, and strong beer for supper. Cheerfulness and good order prevailed throughout the day. It is pleasing to add that great credit is due to Mr. John Benworth Doble, the master, for the kind manner in which he discharges his several duties, and for the improvement he has made in the moral conduct of the inmates, by establishing order and discipline, which are so essential for a Union Workhouse.
