PETERSFIELD.
CLEVER AND PROMPT RECOVERY OF STOLEN PROPERTY.—On Thursday night last three geese and three ducks were stolen from the premises of Mr. Colebrook, butcher, of this town. Early on Friday morning, as soon as the robbery was discovered, information was sent to the police, when our respected and valuable superintendent, Mr. Thomas Fey, immediately started off by train to Portsmouth. Having arrived there, he speedily discovered traces of the missing property, and at once consulted with his old and sagacious colleague, Mr. Inspector Thos. W. Street, of the Portsmouth Police Force. These two practiced hands then cleverly gathered link after link of evidence, and ultimately, after a somewhat exciting chase for about three hours, arrived at the very spot where the thief was housed, when they of course took the rascal into custody, and recovered the whole of the property. The fellow’s name is John Bright, of Greatham and he is said to be one of the most notorious vagabonds in the county. We hear that others are concerned in this robbery, and we trust they will be shortly in the hands of justice.
