MR. WILLIAM ELLIOTT, of Petworth,Sussex, Corn, Seed, and Hop Merchant, owing to the unsettled and almost paralyzed state of the Corn Trade, during the long pending Parliamentary proceedings on the Corn Law, which prevented his extrication from the unfortunate position he was in—that of a large holder, has suffered very heavy losses, and not-withstanding his great industry, become bankrupt.

This has not been accelerated by any want of economy or good management in his household, which has always been conducted most prudently, and his children brought up in such a manner—with regard to principles, education, and industry—as to insure the highest esteem of all who know them.

A strong and kindly feeling in his favour has been expressed ; and many questions and enquiries made how he could best be served.

This it is presumed can in no way be better performed than by enabling him to resume the business that he has hitherto carried on, and which he so well understands. His business connection is widely extended, and his numerous customers would be pleased to see him at the Markets he has for so many years attended.

But this can only be done by the kind aid and liberality of the Public ; whose assistance at this time is earnestly solicited, to raise an industrious man, and enable him to support his exemplary and deserving family; to fill again the station in life he has so long occupied, and resume the business as a Seedsman which has been conducted by his Father and himself, in so satisfactory a manner, for upwards of half a century.

To carry out the above benevolent purpose, a Committee has been formed, consisting of the following gentlemen, who will receive subscriptions either personally, or at the undermentioned Banks on their account ; the amount subscribed to be invested in the hands of trustees, appointed for the due application of the same.
