GROUP IV.—After an investigation of several days this committee rejected the Chichester and Midhurst No. 1 and adopted its competitor No. 2. This bill incorporates a company with a capital of 190,000l. in 10l. shares, and 63,000l. by loan, for making — No. 1 (length 11 miles 15½ chains), from a junction with the Brighton near and westward from Chichester station, passing near and at the westward of East Lavant, West Dean, and Cocking, to a junction with the Mid-Sussex and Midhurst Junction, on Midhurst Common; and 2 (length 42 chains), to connect No. 1 at Midhurst with the Petersfield and Midhurst branch of the South Western; to be completed within five years. The new company are authorised to run over and use the lines and stations of the Midhurst Sussex, the Mid-Sussex and Midhurst Junction, and the Petersfield and Midhurst; and the companies owning or working those lines are to afford facilities to the traffic of the intended railways by through booking and otherwise. Also to contract with the Brighton and the South Western, or either of them, with respect to the working, use, and traffic of the intended railways.
