CONTRACTS FOR BREAD.—As the present price of bread under the now strange condition of the Corn Market, and also the gradual introduction of new wheat for sale, must be a matter of considerable interest, we have gleaned the prices of such Union Contracts in the neighbourhood, as have been made known :—During the late scarcity of provisions, the contract to supply the Beaminster Union with bread, amounted to 11½d. the 4lb loaf ; but at a recent meeting for the same purpose, it realized only 5½d. the loaf.—The contract for the supply of bread to the poor of the united parishes of Salisbury, for the current quarter, has been taken at 9½d. per gallon, that for the previous quarter was 1s. 6½d. per gallon. At Devizes, Mr. C. Brinkworth has contracted to supply, the workhouse with bread for the ensuing quarter at 10d. the 8lb loaf; Mr. P. Thompson, the 1st district at 11d. ; Mr. C. Brinkworth, the 2d at 11d. ; Mr. J. Maslen, the 3d at 10½d. ; Mr. Springbett, the 4th, and Mr. Gregory, the 5th, at 11d. ; Mr. Gregory, the 6th, and Mr. R. Giddins, the 7th, at 10½d. Mr. Brinkworth has also contracted to supply the workhouse with flour at 36s. per sack ; Mr. S. Hull, with meat at 4½d. per lb. ; Mr. Clark, with coal, at 18s. 6d. a ton; Mr. Morris, with bacon at 8½d., and with lard at 9d.; and Mr. Cole, with beer, at 7d. a gallon.—The quarterly contract for supplying the Guardians of the Poor with bread in the Isle of Wight, was closed on Friday last, with Mr. T. Self, of Newport, for the Calbourne district, who has engaged to supply and deliver the best wheaten bread at 14s. 6d. the cwt. (about 12½d. the 8lb loaf). Godshill district is taken by Mr. Warne, at 13s. 4d, the cwt. The poor in the house are to be fed with the best bread by Mr. M. Morgan, of Newport, at 12s. 5d. the cwt. ; and the Newport district is to be supplied by Mr. Thomas Self, at 12s. 3d., or 10½d. the 8lb. The present prices at the bakers are from 1s. up to 14d. per gallon.—Poole Herald.

     As a consequence of the strong competition recently sprung up in Salisbury, the best bread is now selling at 10d. a gallon.
