COUNTY MAGISTRATES’ OFFICE, TUESDAY,—Present the Hon J. J. CARNEGIE, and G. FORBES, Esq.

John Alward, of Liss, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for stealing a pocket handkerchief, the property of William Stacey, of Froxfield; and, also, to a further term of two months’ for stealing an umbrella, the property of Mr. Spencer

—Two men named Robert Ward and Joseph Brown, were committed as deserters from the North Lincoln Militia.

Matthew Bignell, of Horndean, was fined £1 and costs, for keeping his house open after hours.

James Hall, of Buriton, was fined 3s. for throwing stones at his own child, aged 5 years.

James Cook, was fined 4s. an egg, and costs, for taking seven pheasant’s eggs in Buriton.

PETERSFIELD

     At the Petty Sessions on Tuesday—present Hon. J. J. Carnegie, and G. Forbes, Esq.,

—   John Alward, of Liss was brought up in custody, charged with stealing one pocket handkerchief, the property of William Stacey, of Froxfield, on Saturday last,—six weeks’ imprisonment. He was also charged with stealing on the same day an umbrella, the property of Mr. Spencer, of Froxfield; in this case he was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment to commence at the expiration of the above.

—   Robert Ward and Joseph Brown were charged with being deserters from the Royal North Lincoln Militia,—committed.

—   Martha Bignell, of Horndean, beer-house keeper, was charged by P.C. 154, C.  Godfrey, with keeping his house open for the sale of beer after the hour of 10 o’clock, to wit 10 minutes before 11 p.m., fined one pound and costs.

—   James Hale, of Buriton, was charged by Frederick Stephens with throwing a stone at his child, aged 5 years; he was cautioned by the chairman, and ordered to pay three shillings.

—   John Cook was charged with taking seven pheasants eggs, in the parish of Buriton; the case being proved by Eli Underwood and Charles Gardiner, keepers, on Ditcham Estate he was ordered to pay four shillings per egg and costs, making a total of 1l. 15s.
