LAW INTELLIGENCE.
COURT OF BANKRUPTCY.

In RE CALVERT.— (Before Mr. Commissioner Fonblanque, on Saturday.)—This was the certificate meeting in the case of W. Calvert, tailor and woollen-draper, of Petersfield. His debts were 2,056l; assets, about 750l. The accounts began with a deficiency of 262l.—Mr. Lucas opposed for two creditors.—The principal ground of complaint was that the bankrupt, a few months before his failure, had obtained credit from Messrs. Scott and Wright, of Vigo-street, and Messrs. Doughty and Co., of St. Martin’s-lane, by the false representation that he had sufficient to pay 20s in the pound. Goods had been supplied by the latter firm up to within a month of the failure. It now appeared that the assets would not yield above 5s in the pound.—His honour said the bankrupt had been guilty of a concealment of the true state of his affairs. He had also gone on expending more than his profits for some years. The certificate (second class) must be suspended for six months. —Costs of the opposition were granted.
