PETERSFIELD.] ELECTION OF MAYOR. — Monday last, being the second Monday in Epiphany, a Court Leet was held in the Town Hall for the election of a Mayor and other officers for the ensuing year. The Court was summoned by the Lord of the Court, who is also a patron of this borough. A respectable jury, tenants to Sir W. Seward, Esq., of Weston. was re-elected as Mayor; subsequently Mr. G. Todman, who has with much credit to himself, and satisfaction to the ratepayers, served the office of churchwarden during the past six years, was proposed as Mayor by Mr. James Sturt, but finding no seconder, his name was withdrawn. The newly-elected officers, with the packed jury, took lunch together at the Red Lion Hotel, on their retiring in procession from the Town Hall, the feast being provided by the M.P. of the borough, who is one of the Under-Secretaries of the Treasury in Lord Derby's administration.
