CRICKET.—PETERSFIELD v. HASLEMERE.—We have already stated that the Petersfield club opened the season on May-day, by way of rehearsal between themselves, on the Heath. A challenge having been given and accepted, the Haslemere club reached here by the 9.11 down train, on Friday last, bringing with them a dull morning with thick misty rain, and every appearance of a wet cricketing day. But nothing daunted, the two clubs proceeded to the cricket ground, and pitched the wickets at 12 o’clock, when the weather cleared up. The toss being won by Haslemere, H. and J. Chuter first took the willow, to the bowling of Clear and Stephens on the side of Petersfield. The following is the score:—

Thus terminated tbe first match of tbe season. In conclusion we have to observe that the batting of S. Marden and Beauchamp on tbe part of Haslemere with the batting of Clear and Lillywbite, on the part of Petersfield, was much admired, and the slow bowling of Underdown was very puzzling and effective. The finish of the two innings took place as the shades of evening were coining on, when the cricketers and friends sat down to a good spread at the Dolphin Hotel.
