PETERSFIELD.

CRICKET.—The grand match between the Officers of the Portsmouth Garrison and the Petersfield Club, was played on the Heath, on Friday and Saturday last. By the kind permission of the Colonels the scene was enlivened by the attendance of the band of the Royal Marines, on Friday, and the band of the Royal Marine Artillery on Saturday. Each of these played a selection of choice music in the superior style for which they are so famous, this, and the large attendance of visitors and the lovely scenery in the midst of which the cricket ground lies made up a most delightful tout ensemble. The play of the Officers both at the wickets and in the field was excellent throughout, but fickle fortune turned her back on the Petersfield eleven on this occasion and their score in consequence fell far short of its usual fair proportions. A subscription was raised to defray the expenses of the bands, Mr. W. G. Blanchard of the London and County Bank kindly undertook to collect the requisite funds.
