PETERSFIELD V. ALRESFORD.
The long anticipated match between these two clubs came off at Petersfield, on Monday, July 2nd, and was decided on the first innings in favour of the Petersfield eleven, by a majority of six runs only—time not permitting the second innings of this well-contested match to be played out. The batting of Messrs. Blackmore and Etherington for their respective sides was much admired, as was the bowling of Mr. E. Godwin, who bowled 20 consecutive maiden overs, two runs only being scored off his bowling during the whole of the first innings. The Rev. W. S. Richards also was very successful both in the field and at the wicket. Subjoined is the score of the day’s play:—
