CRICKET.—THE PETERSFIELD CLUB v. ELEVEN GENTLEMEN (friends of Captain Nicholson).—On Thursday last a match was played on the grounds of Chiltley House, Liphook, between two choice elevens. The weather was very unfavourable from showers of misty rain that fell during the game, which resulted in favour of Liphook,—only one innings each being played. The “glorious uncertainty" of cricket was clearly exemplified in six good batsmen, on the part of Petersfield, going in for 15 runs,—all of whom were placed hors de combat, scoring only four runs, thereby leaving the Gentlemen victors by 11 runs.
