PETERSFIELD

CRICKET.—An interesting and novel game of cricket took place on the 16th inst., in the Heath, between eleven of the Petersfield division of the Rifle Corps, and the Petersfield Club. Wickets were pitched at 11 o’clock, and the willow was first taken in hand by the Club, the number of runs obtained being 49 in the first innings. The Rifles then stood to work, but were driven away in the midst of a drenching shower of rain, to the booth, and from thence were conveyed to the Lion Hotel, where a cold collation was in readiness, in accordance with Craft’s well-known style, to which, we need not say, full justice was done. The weather clearing up, both parties again proceeded to the ground, when the Rifles finished off their first innings, numbering 37 runs, which gave the palm to the Club. The weather was exceedingly unfavorable, and the ground in a sad state, or a good company would have been in attendance to witness this interesting match.
