HANTS QUARTER SESSIONS

Business recommenced on Tuesday morning in the Crown Court, before W. W. Farr, Esq., Chairman; and W. C. Esdaile, Esq. The necessity of some arrangement to provided a better attendance of magistrates was never more apparent. Mr. Esdaile had consented to preside in the second Court, which he was prevented from opening for several hours, in consequence of the non-attendance of another magistrate, although no less than five are residents of Winchester.

There were no appeals, and the prisoners were disposed of as follows:—

Four months’ imprisonment
— William Bartley and James Richards, for stealing a coat at Hambledon
— Charles Murray, for breaking into the house of George Matthews, at Ashe, and stealing wearing apparel
— William Higgins, for stealing money at Carisbrook, the property of William Warner
Richard Moore, for assaulting James Robinson, and other persons at Petersfield
