HAVANT, May 14.
DEATH OF C. B. LONGCROFT, Esq.—It is with extreme regret that we have to record the death of Charles Beare Longcroft, Esq., which event occurred very suddenly in the early part of the morning of the 6th instant. Mr. Longcroft has been one of the coroners for the county of Southampton for a period of nearly forty years, and clerk to the Board of Guardians of the Havant Union since its formation in the year 1835. With truth we can say that no gentleman in the immediate neighbourhood was more respected than he was, and his death has cast a gloom over the whole place. The family of Mr. Longcroft have for a period of 150 years been residents in the town of Havant. The Board of Guardians, at their meeting on Tuesday last, passed tbe following resolution to the memory of the deceased gentleman :— ‟That this board desire to record their sincere regret at the great loss they have sustained by the sudden death of their highly respected clerk, who, by his uniform kindness, gentlemanly demeanour, and faithful discharge of his duties from the formation of this Union, from the 12th of May, 1835, secured the esteem and regard of the Guardians in succession, but none more so than the present members of this board.” His remains were interred in the family vault on Thursday.
