PETERSFIELD.

DEATH OF AN OLD POSTMAN. —It may be interesting to many of our readers to record the death of Mr. Henry Albery, the late old and well known postman from this town (over our county border through Rogate into the Sussex delivery) which took place on the 19th instant, at age of 72 years. The deceased began his letter carrying career at the commencement of the postal alteration, which took place in 1842, and continued on in his daily travel, including Sundays, till 1857, making in the 15 years, at 20 miles per day, the amazing number of 109,500 miles. For the remaining three years, the Sunday being taken off, reduced the weekly mileage to 120 instead of 140, as before, but four extra miles per day being then put on in the distance made 24 miles daily, and for the last period named 22,536 miles, which added to the preceding distance gives the astonishing number together of 132,036 miles accomplished by our veteran postman up to the time of his retirement in 1860, when he was pensioned off from further public services.
