A corporal and private of the 7th Fusiliers were dispatched the other day to Alton, to bring in a deserter from the regiment, named Scott. Between Maple-Durham and Buriton, on this side of Petersfield, the deserter contrived to escape, and it is reported, that Pace, the private, imagining that he had neglected his duty, and should be censured, blew his brains out. The Adjutant of the Regiment has been sent to inquire into the circumstances, and until his return with the corporal, the correct account of the melancholy event cannot be known.
