GUILDFORD, CHICHESTER, PORTSMOUTH, and FAREHAM RAILWAY.
—In consequence of the rejection of the bill introduced by the committee of management in the present session, by which the company's application for their entire project was renewed, and powers were sought to make branches to Petersfield, Chichester Harbour, and Her Majesty's Dock Yards at Portsmouth, the objects in respect of which the new capital of £250,000 was raised (in 20,000 quarter shares of £12. 10s., each deposit, £1. 5s. per quarter share) have failed, and by the terms of its subscription, the London and South Western Railway Company are to return the full deposit to the holders of the scrip representing such quarter shares.
The holders of quarter shares are, therefore, invited to send in their scrip to this office for inspection. A voucher will be given on receipt of it, and the proper forms supplied to enable the holders to receive back their deposits immediately on their scrip being found correct.
The committee of management will take an early opportunity of making a general report to the proprietors of the £50 shares in the undertaking (which will reduced to £25 shares by the passing of the bill now pending), and will state, at the same time, the course most fitting, in their judgment, to be taken under the circumstances.
In the mean time, it may be proper to add, that about twelve miles of the line, originally proposed in 1844, viz. (from Guildford to Godalming, and from Fareham to Portsmouth), will be sanctioned under the bill introduced in the session of 1845, which now only waits the royal assent.—By order of the committee of management,
G. W. HORN, Secretary.
