16TH HANTS RIFLES.—The 16th Hants Rifle Corps was established as a sub-division in 1859, under the command of Lieut. Marx, (now major of the 1st Administrative Battalion), the late Lord Ashburton subscribing 50l. towards preliminary expenses, other gentlemen of the neighbourhood all giving liberally. The sub-division prospered and soon became a company, when Lieut. Marx received his promotion as captain. Since that time the corps has attained a degree of efficiency that has frequently called forth the encomiums of the adjutant. In the course of last year Captain Marx received further promotion, being made major of the battalion, and the command of the corps then devolved on Lieut. (now Captain) Benson. The corps at present number 71 enrolled members, and they have attended all the reviews at Brighton, Droxford, and Guildford.
