4TH HANTS RIFLES.—The formation of a corps, to be called the "Havant and Emsworth Rifle Corps," was decided upon at a meeting held at Havant, under the presidency of Sir J. C. Jervois, Bart., M.P., on the 22nd of November, 1859. That designation was, upon Her Majesty's acceptance of the services of the corps, by letter of the Secretary of State for War, changed to "Fourth Hants Rifle Volunteer Corps," and on the formation of the 2nd Administrative Battalion Hants Rifles, became, by virtue of Article 32 of the Volunteer regulations, No. 1 Company in the battalion. It has the use, by permission, of a good practice range at Warblington Marshes, and numbers nearly 90 enrolled members.
