The services of the corps were accepted on the 24th of February, 1860. It has twice held the county challenge cup—in 1862, by Private Parker and in 1863 by Corporal Pink—this being the only corps that have won it twice. The corps was originally commanded by H. P. Delmé, Esq.; afterwards by Lieut.-Col. Conran, and F. E. Brace, Esq., and is now commanded by Major Gordon, late 66th Foot and Hants Artillery Militia. The complement of 100 men is almost full, and the corps is in a very flourishing condition in every way.
