DIVISION OF COUNTIES

The following are the enactments relative to the division of counties, in the Bill introduced by Lord John Russell, "to settle and describe the divisions of counties and the limits of cities and boroughs in England and Wales, in so far as respects the election of members to serve in parliament."

HANTS

    And be it enacted, that the two divisions of the county of Hants shall respectively be called the northern division and the southern division; and that such northern division shall include the whole of the several now existing divisions of Alton, Andover, Basingstoke, King's Clere, Droxford, Odiham, Petersfield, and Winchester, as the same are now established by virtue of an order made by his Majesty's justices of the peace for the county of Hants, at the Midsummer quarter-sessions for the said county held at Winchester on the 28th day of June, 1831; and that such southern division shall include the whole of the several now existing divisions of Fareham, Lymington, Ringwood, Romsey, and Southampton, as the same or now established by the order aforesaid; and also the town and county of the town of Southampton; and that the court for the election of knights of the shire shall be held for such northern division at the city of Winchester, and for such southern division at the borough of Southampton.
