ELECTION MOVEMENTS.—Our late member, Sir William Jolliffe, having been elevated to the Peerage, a vacancy occurs in the representation of the borough. Mr. Nicholson, of Basing-park, has issued an address to the electors, in which he says:—‟My political opinions, both from conviction and hereditary feeling, are Liberal; but at the same time I recognise the circumstances under which Lord Derby has acceded to office, and I am therefore not disposed to enter upon any active opposition to his government in the coming session.” No other candidate has as yet presented himself and it is expected that Mr. Nicholson will be returned without opposition. Lord Hylton has issued a farewell address to his constituents.
