RAILWAY INTELLIGENCE

     The electric telegraph being fitted on the South-Western Railway from the Admiralty-office in Whitehall to the Victualling-yard at Gosport, and now constantly used, orders have been issued for tbe officers and men at the Semaphores, at Portsdown Hill, Compton Down, Beacon Hill (Petersfield), Midhurst, Haslemere, Godalming, Guildford, Cobham, Esher, Kingston, Putney, and Chelsea, to be discharged on the 31st of December next. The officers with their families have permission to retain the houses until June 30, 1848.
