PETERSFIELD.—FIRE.—On Tuesday an alarming fire broke out on the farm of C. Lauch, Esq., of the Manor Farm, Buriton. Some children were playing in the rick-yard with Lucifer matches, and wilfully set on fire a large wheat rick, containing about eight loads of thrashed wheat, the whole of which was spoiled and destroyed by fire and water. We are happy to state that the property was insured.

Portsmouth Times and Naval Gazette - Saturday 05 February 1859

FIRE.—A wheat rick, containing 8 loads of thrashed wheat, the property of Charles Louch, Esq., occupying the Manor Farm, by some means at present not known, took fire in the village of Buriton. It was first noticed about 4 o’clock, p.m., on Tuesday last. We are glad to say that although the rick stood within 8 or 10 feet of a barn, and other buildings, no further mischief occurred. The property was insured. The Petersfield engine was after the lapse of considerable time brought into play, but not in that efficient way to do the services required in a case of sudden emergency.
