Owing to the immense quantity of rain which has fallen during the past week, and especially in the course of last Monday night, the lower part of the town of Petersfield presented such a scene on Tuesday morning as had never before been witnessed by the oldest inhabitant. The whole of the road in front of the Alms-houses, and extending from the Red Lion to the White Hart, was completely inundated, the water being in many places upwards of two feet in depth. The Alms-houses and also the adjoining stables were flooded, so that it was found necessary to remove the horses from the latter, the water being up to their knees. The water began to overflow the road about seven o'clock in the morning, and continued to rise till about ten ; had it occurred during the night, other houses would have been inundated, as it was only by great exertion in damming up the cellar windows that it was kept out,
