PETERSFIELD.
THE FORESTERS’ LODGE AT LISS.—On Tuesday, the “Maberly Lodge of Foresters” held their anniversary, when the members and friends assembled at Hawkley, and attended service in the newly-erected church (built solely at the expense of the gentleman from whose name the title of the lodge is derived), where an excellent and appropriate sermon was preached by the Rev. Mr. Charrington upon the occasion. After which, a procession was formed, and, headed by the celebrated Haslemere band, proceeded with lightsome steps to Liss, where, at the Spread Eagle Inn, an excellent dinner was provided by brother Hills. Mr. Maberly occupied the chair. Amongst the company assembled we noticed the Rev. Mr. Charrington (Hawkley), the Rev. Mr. Clements (Bramshott), Dr. Leachman (medical officer to the lodge), Mr. James Barnard (Hawkley), Mr. Grain (of the Hampshire Bank, Petersfield), Mr Grattan Cooke (of Flexcombe), Mr. Schalders, artist (Rake), Mr. Holt, surgeon (Petersfield), &c., &c., who were well supported by members and friends, together numbering 100. The weather was delightful, and added much to the pleasure and hilarity of the meeting, which, together with the good things, agreeable company, and some excellent singing and appropriate toasts given upon the occasion by the above named gentlemen, consummated a happy day of enjoyment throughout to the attendants assembled beneath the spreading and fostering wings of the Eagle.
