PETERSFIELD, Saturday, May 1.

A FOX KILLED BY THE RAILWAY. — On the Portsmouth side of the station between Mapledurham and Buriton, a fine old fox met with an accidental end upon the line a few days back from the 1st down train at 9 p.m. to Portsmouth. It seems that old Reynard was crossing the line as the engine approached, when the guard-iron struck him on the head and knocked him clear from the rails. Soon afterwards he was picked up by some of the workmen passing along the line, and proved to be a fine old dog fox in good fettle.
