FREE ENTERTAINMENT.—On Friday, the 17th instant, a ‟Reading from Shakespeare” was given, under the auspices of the Young Men’s Improvement Society, by Mr. Charles Tempest, and we have much pleasure in hearing testimony to the excellent taste and feeling with which the whole of the pieces were given. Mr. Tempest appears to us to enter fully into the spirit of the author, and completely identifies himself with the character portrayed, and the whole is done in a quiet and natural manner, free alike from over-acting and from insipidity. There was a very large attendance. At the close a vote of thanks was proposed by the Rev. T. Field (Vice-President of the Society), and seconded by H. Atkinson, Esq. A vote of thanks was also passed, on the motion of Mr. Privett, to the Rev. T. Field for his kindness in taking the chair on the occasion.
