PETERSFIELD.

An accident of a very painful character occurred, on Wednesday morning, to the gardener in the service of ― Lewis, Esq., of Westbury House, a few miles from this town. It appears the accident was occasioned from the lock of the gun. coming in contact with tho conservatory door, which brought the muzzle close to the left arm, when the whole of the charge passed through the limb two inches above the wrist. No time was lost by Mr. Frank Rogers, surgeon, of Westmeon (who was quickly on the spot), in availing himself of the able surgical assistance of R. S. Cross, Esq., of this town, when it was ascertained to be a case of bad gun shot wound, and amputation was found necessary, and was performed under chloroform. At the time of writing the unfortunate sufferer was progressing favourably, who is a married man, with a wife, and children, and it is highly gratifying to add that Mr. Lewis was extremely kind, and rendered every assistance in his power.
