HANTS COUNTY SESSIONS.

… Mr. Portal read the report of the Committee of Public Works, which showed that the police stations at Basingstoke, Petersfield, Southampton, Havant, and Lymington had been completed, and are now occupied, and that the stations at Droxford and Fordingbridge are being proceeded with satisfactorily, and that works ordered at Blackwater-bridge had been completed. The Committee had caused plans to be prepared for the alteration of the old gaol at Andover and its conversion into a police-station, and it remained with the Court to sanction them, and to authorise the Committee to advertise for tenders.

Mr. Bonham Carter said that Alton and Petersfield were so situated that it would occupy more of the time of the Police in conveying prisoners to and from Winchester than in keeping them in some custody. He was however willing that the subject be referred to the Committee.
