HANTS LENT ASSIZES
SKIN STEALING.—Charles Bone, 30, labourer, was indicted for stealing a sheepskin, the property of Henry Boys, at Petersfield, on the 28th January. Mr. Warry prosecuted. It was shown that the prosecutor had a ewe die, that it was skinned, and the skin placed on a beam in the cart house. It was missed, and the prisoner had it the day after, and sold it for a shilling to Mr. Parker. There was another man with the prisoner at the time, but Bone threw the skin down in the shop, and took the money for it. The skin was again sold, but it was marked by the purchaser, and now identified, having been handed over to the police. The prisoner was convicted. The indictment stated that he had twice been convicted of felony, but the prisoner said it was only once. The judge said he had been clearly convicted, and sentenced him to twelve months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
