HANTS LENT ASSIZES

     James Hill, 43, and Susan Hill, 46, were charged with a burglary at Buriton, on the 15th of May, in the house of John Harrison, and stealing therefrom various articles of dress. James Hill was sentenced to four years’ penal servitude; Susan Hill, no bill.

     Henry Fielder, 38, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for cutting and wounding James Sturt, at Petersfield, on the 3rd of June.

    William Ray, 10, a shepherd boy, was charged with having feloniously and maliciously set fire to a rick of straw, at Catherington, on the 15th April, the property of Henry Boys, his master. The Judge, in summing up, said it was necessary in order to convict, that the jury should be convinced the prisoner had acted wilfully, knowing at the time he was doing wrong. The prisoner was acquitted.
