PETERSFIELD.

Heath Fair was held on Friday last. There was a good supply of both beasts and sheep, but owing to the shortness of feed, the demand was flat, and but little business was done; there were fewer horses than usual. It is an established fact, based on the experience of that veritable personage, ‟the oldest inhabitant,” that it always rains on Heath Fair day; and, singular enough, although (with one slight exception) no rain had fallen for more than two months, as this notable day drew on, there were decided indications of an approaching change in the weather, still no rain came until the very day actually arrived, and then it fell almost without intermission for twelve hours. Such is the fact; the rationale lies too deep for our philosophy, and we think would puzzle even the sage who discovered that ‟Tenterden steeple was the cause of Goodwin Sands!”
