PETERSFIELD.]—The heavy rain which continued throughout the day on Monday caused a great swell of water in the river which runs through the town, and in the evening, about ten o’clock, the turnpike-road between the Red Lion and the White Hart, on the London road, was nearly three feet deep in water, which caused some considerable damage to the corn in Mr. John Chase's corn-stores, on the ground-floor, as also to the dwellings of several persons living along the road, whose cellars were completely inundated; fortunately, beyond this, no accident occurred.
