Agent—Mr. G. DUPLOCK

HIGHWAY ROBBERY.—On Tuesday evening last, about seven o’clock, Mr. John Lucas, of Compton, was passing along a lane near North Marden, on his way home, when he heard some persons moving behind the hedge, and supposing them to be poachers he called to them enquiring what they were doing, whereupon two men, having the appearance of navvies, rushed out upon him and demanded his money. He struck one of them and knocked him down, but the odds being so much against him, he was soon overpowered, and the fellows got him down, and kneeling upon him, rifled his pockets of about 2l.and in the struggle one of them aimed a blow at his chest with a clasp knife, which grazed a pocket-book which he had in his breast pocket and glanced off without doing him any injury. We are sorry to add that the fellows have thus far escaped the vigilance of the police.
