The Dukes of Richmond have been, since their creation in 1675, Dukes of Richmond in England, of Lenox in Scotland, and since 1777, of Aubigny in France. The last title was derived by Charles Lenox, the first Duke of Richmond, natural son of Charles II. from his mother, Louisa de Querouelle, a French lady, who was created by the King Baroness Petersfield, Countess of Fareham, and Duchess of Portsmouth; and by Louis XIV, Duchess of Aubigny in France. Of this last title the Duke of Richmond was deprived by the Revolutionary Government of France; and we understand it has been recently restored to his Grace by the King of France.
